Most of the Australian Traveller staff hadn’t even been born back in the 60s but we are loving these slices of life from the ‘good ol’ days’ of Aussie life and travel.
They are just a small selection of photographs from ‘Those Were the Days: Australia in the Sixties’ a coffee table book by Newcastle-based authors Ron & Elizabeth Morrison, capturing their take on the 1960s.
The colour and black & white images span the Swinging Sixties, showing the gaping difference between the beginning and end of the decade. They make us wonder what ever happened to billycarts, bush picnics and a low-rise Surfers Paradise.
Ron has been taking photographs for more than 60 years, starting as a cadet photographer at the Newcastle Morning Herald, while Elizabeth has authored five photography books and recently a book on commonly confused words, ‘The Right Word’.
‘Those Were the Days: Australia in the Sixties’ is published by Exisle Publishing ($39.99).
