Whether you are looking for luxurious accommodation for the whole family or a private romantic getaway for two, Mirage Whitsundays resort is the perfect accommodation for you.
The Mirage Whitsundays provides patrons with contemporary living spaces that are all self-contained and incredibly spacious. These luxe 5-star rooms are fitted out with everything you could need. Airlie Beach is known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, while also offering panoramic views of the Whitsundays Passage right from your room.
There are three types of accommodation here, the apartments, villas and penthouse. Each space here is completely self-contained, with fully equipped kitchens. You can also expect some pretty little bonuses in some of the rooms, from a highly-popular rain shower, private sundeck and an LCD TV.
Best of all, Mirage has created rooms that are catered to the disabled including adjustable beds for them. With easier access, wheel-in showers with railings and direct access to the pools and restaurants.
If you book into either a villa or a penthouse, you can expect a private plunge pool waiting for you just outside on the terrace. This completely private space is for you and your family, or a heap of your mates to enjoy in peace.
The resort offers two pools for you to chill out in. The Lagoon Pool is a family paradise, the children can wade in the shallow end, while the parents are diving in down the deep end. But if you’re looking for some seclusion and R&R, then just head over to the Horizon Pool.
Once you’ve burned off a few of those buffet breakfasts in the gym, hit the showers and then head over to the Satori Day Spa at the Mirage. All the Satori therapists are highly trained for any treatment you request. Whether it be a hydrating skin facial, a deep tissue massage or even a maternity massage (for second and early third trimesters of pregnancy only), these professionals will let you sink into heavenly bliss.
It’s something that at least every Australian has on their bucket list, scuba-dive into the Great Barrier Reef. At least 2 million tourists each year come to see this wonder of the underwater world. There is a tonne of tours to choose from that depart from Airlie Beach, but Mirage will be able to find the best one for you.
Each tour will spend a good deal of time hovering above the reef and generally offer a buffet lunch with snacks throughout the day. If you’re lucky you might see some turtles and schools of fish swimming down below.
You can either do this yourself by renting out a boat and heading from one island to the next. But considering there are 74 islands in the entire archipelago, it would be much more time-effective to hop aboard a guided tour to see the absolute best in the area.
There are a few hop on hop off services that roam through the islands. The most popular routes are to Hamilton and Daydream. Choose how little or long you want to stay at each place and then hop on the boat to head back to Airlie Beach whenever you’re keen.
After you’ve gotten all the big day trips out of the way, it’s time to step back and acknowledge the beauty of the mainland. Only ten minutes up the road from the centre of Airlie lies Mount Rooper. If you hike it all the way to the top lookout, you can witness incredible views of the Whitsunday Passage. But further down and through coastal rainforest, you’ll find a hidden beach that’ll make you feel worlds away.
If you prefer more of the treat yourself lifestyle, then take a stroll up and down Shute Harbour Road for some boutique fashion, swimwear and homeware stores. You might even find a few regular stores from back home.

Thankfully for the locals around the area, Airlie Beach is only a 30-minute drive up from the Whitsunday Coast Airport. If you hire a car (definitely recommended), you’ll be there in no time.
Whereas if you’re heading up there from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or the Gold Coast, you’ve got a little more travel to endure. Those Sunshine and Gold locals will find that they have to drive up to Brisbane airport for a smoother trip than taking the various trains and buses available. From Brisbane airport, it’s only a one and a half hour trip to Whitsunday Coast Airport and voila, you’ve arrived.
Sydney and Melbourne folk it’s easy to just pop over to the airport and hop on a plane direct.
